Cash Bases – a home grown success story...
Cash Bases, founded on 19th May 1981, is now the world’s largest
manufacturer of customised cash drawers. With its manufacturing
plant in Newhaven and sales offices in France, Spain and Germany
it currently employs over 230 staff. Over recent years Cash
Bases has expanded its portfolio and now supplies a range of
products to enhance security and efficiency at Point of Sale.
Its customers include most of the world’s leading retailers with
exports now accounting for over 70% of its sales.

We questioned Phil Stone, MD at Cash Bases, on the
reasons for this success... |
What is the recipe for your past success...
Cash Bases has developed and maintained strong relationships
with most of the world’s major retailers. Learning from our
experience, we are successfully supplying products to overcome
many of the existing and emerging problems faced by retailers at
the Point of Sale. Turnover is expected to double within the
next three years.
We listen to what our customer’s Point of Sale issues are and
then design and manufacture products that address them. By
investing in technology and our staff we produce quality
products that are excellent value for money.
How have you grown since formation...
Our products are now used in over 70 countries worldwide and
this year’s turnover is expected to be in excess of £17 million.
In addition to our own offices in Europe we have distributors in
Eastern Europe, Johannesburg, Sydney and Minneapolis. Our
customers have become increasingly aware of the value our
expertise can bring to them in solving all issues related to
cash handling, security and efficiency at the Point of Sale.

What about your new products…
We continue to develop and source pioneering ideas to increase
the security of our vast range of cash drawers and improve the
operational efficiency in cash handling at the check out. We
also market
PowerBase, a fully mobile check out which utilises
the latest IT communication and battery power technology, to
many of the UK’s leading retailers.
In 2005, an agreement was signed with a Norwegian company to
exclusively supply
Vensafe a revolutionary new product that
eliminates shrinkage of theft prone, high value merchandise. It
also enables maximum product promotion and safe display whilst
improving availability and convenience for the busy shopper.
Over 1,000
Vensafe machines have already been installed across
Europe and are improving the revenue and profit of all the
retailers involved.
In 2006 we won exclusive rights in Europe to market
Aspect Loss
Prevention software, a data-mining tool that detects employee
theft.
There are a host of other inventive products currently in
development. The emphasis is very much on supplying what the
customer actually needs and not just a “close fit”.
How do you see the future…
The Company has just experienced a record first quarter in terms
of invoiced sales in 2006. This is in no small way thanks to the
hard work of our Newhaven factory staff supporting our sales
growth.
Our sales growth is due to the rapidly evolving market, the
company is increasingly involved with developing existing and
new ideas and turning them into real product solutions. Success
in the future will come from the strength of our relationships
with our end users, which we continue to nurture. The people
that form Cash Bases genuinely believe that ‘Together we make it
happen’.
