Improved Ergonomics
Cashier Accountability
Late Night Security
Peak and Seasonal Points of Sale
The Requirement
A well-known UK supermarket chain decided to address ergonomics
at point of sale and at the same time review their checkout
configuration.
The Solution
Cash Bases redesigned the checkout to place a scanner facing the
customer and a flip lid drawer at right angles to the left of
the cashier and in line with the customer as they pay for their
goods. At the same time Cash Bases played a significant role in
designing the revolutionary back-to-back checkout design seen in
many stores today.
The Benefits
Eye to eye contact between cashier and customer throughout the
transaction plus the protection of a flip lid drawer reduces the
incidence of counterfeit note presentation and snatch theft and
improves employee safety. Normal customers enjoy better
interaction.
Inter-fitting back-to-back checkouts mean more points of sale
within the same footprint for increased revenue and improved
efficiency.

The Requirement
A prestige multiple determined to introduce a high level of
cashier accountability and improved cash balancing.
The Solution
Cash Bases devised a Cash drawer insert with magnetised integral
lid and NO key release either on the outer lid or for
emergencies. The drawer is only opened by software triggered at
the time of transaction. Removable, weight calibrated coin cups
were incorporated into the inserts.
The Benefits
Cashiers are encouraged to be accurate in all transactions and
inserts are moved to a secure location where appropriate
software opens the drawer for efficient and secure cash
management. Coin cups can be removed and placed straight on to
weigh scales in the back office for accurate cash balancing.

The Requirement
A premium food division of a mixed retail multiple had issues
with employee vulnerability due to late night opening and easily
accessed High Street and railway station locations. Coin
transactions were unusually high and point of sale needed to be
manned at all times with little opportunity to cash-up during
the shift.
The Solution
Cash Bases created a wide flip top drawer with a separate lift
out coin tray containing special, large capacity coin cups.
Working closely with the checkout manufacturer, its own
successful skimmer drawer design was adapted to provide a secure
drawer receptacle concealed within their units.
The Benefits
The flip lid increases security in the front facing checkouts.
High capacity coin cups reduce the need for removal and
replenishment during the shift. High denomination notes drop
into a secure hidden drawer from which they can be retrieved or
left safely undetected overnight for a supervisor to balance in
the morning. Retention of late shift staff and efficiency
improves and staffing costs are reduced.

The Requirement
A national mixed retailer realised that it was creating multiple
opportunities for increased sales during lunch times, seasonal
promotions and bi-annual sales but was not realising a
proportional increase in revenue.
The Solution
Cash Bases custom designed a PowerBase mobile wireless
workstation capable of integrating epos with the back office for
up to 16 hours via the stores’ RF network and within a radius of
2 km. A hand scanner, chip and pin machine and screen were
supplied by the customer’s chosen integrator and a Cash Bases
space saving flip lid drawer under-mounted. Bag hangers, poles
for a Pay Here sign and lift up shelves for increased packing
area were added.
The Benefits
PowerBase ensures that all sales opportunities are maximised.
Promotions can be run in or outside the store to attract impulse
purchase and increased footfall, refurbishments, seasonal and
promotional peak sales on hosiery, flowers, Christmas, fireworks
and sandwiches are maximised, queues are reduced and store
refurbishments are no longer loss leaders.
